claims for children claims corporation homepage

Children are as equally entitled to pursue a claim for Personal Injury as adults. However, it is necessary for an adult to act on the child's behalf and to become what is known as their `litigation friend'.

This means that all correspondence from us will be addressed to the litigation friend. The litigation friend will be responsible for providing us with instructions as the claim progresses.

It is common for a parent or guardian to act as a litigation friend. However, this is not essential and any person over the age of 18 years can be appointed to act as a litigation friend.

If a child reaches their 18th birthday whilst their claim is progressing, they will be able to replace the litigation friend.

Children have longer to make a claim for Personal Injury following an accident, as the time limit is extended to their 21st birthday. However, we believe that it is preferable to start the claim at the earliest opportunity.
